Gas distribution utilities who operate and maintain large diameter cast iron mains face the high costs and disruption associated with replacing the pipe as well as the challenges of maintaining these assets. CISBOT enables gas networks to safely extend the life of bell and spigot (lead/jute) and mechanical joints with no disruption of gas service to customers, reduced environmental impact and lower costs.
CISBOT enters the live, 15″-36″ diameter cast iron main through a very small opening in the street and travels through the pipe to internally seal up to 110 joints.
All work performed in live mains
Reduced impact on traffic and community
Low noise enables crews to work at night
CISBOT remediates all the joints in the main by injecting an industry-proven anaerobic sealant into the joint. Our process repairs existing leaks and prevents new leaks from forming for 50-years.
Ability to address both jute filled joints and mechanical joints
Designed for 15″ to 36″ diameter mains; soon expanding to address up to 48″ mains
Computer controlled injection method
Ability to inject from multiple positions around each joint
ULC Robotics can provide a full turnkey rehabilitation program, including site preparation, excavation, tapping, valve installation, joint sealing, and reinstatement to support our contracts.
Reduce demand on limited utility resources
By sealing leak-prone pipelines CISBOT mitigates the lost value of leaked gas and prevents harmful methane emissions from negatively impacting the environment. Our solar-powered mobile command units also help support net-zero carbon emission goals.
Large diameter cast iron pipes are often located in densely populated and traffic-sensitive locations, making them difficult to access for repair or replacement. CISBOT enables gas networks to rehabilitate their assets with minimal disruption to the public and zero impact to customers’ gas supply.

It’s important for us, our stakeholders and customers to make sure that we embrace innovation, chose the correct method of repairs, and future-proof our networks to make sure they are done right the first time.
R. Sansom, Cadent Gas
CISBOT delivered 850m of Gas mains remediation to this highly sensitive location in 9 weeks compared to 9 months via traditional methods, The impact on traffic was considerably reduced and at no time did customers have their gas supplies interrupted.”
J. Harrison, Cadent Gas
The main benefit for us is CISBOT enables us to keep the roads open, have the gas on at all times, and it massively reduces the duration of the work.”
J. Rowing, Westminster Council UK
Hiring ULC Robotics for the work with CISBOT on West End Avenue cost $400,000. To do the job the way such work used to be done would have cost $1.5 million to $1.8 million.”
